Pawtucket - William “Bill” A.

Maranda, 85, of Bellmore Drive, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 11, 2011.

He was the beloved husband of Lucille (Champagne) Maranda for 60 years.

Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Ernest and Imelda (Thibeault) Maranda, Bill and his wife resided in Pawtucket over 50 years.

Bill served in the U.S.

He was a World War II and Korean War veteran, having served aboard the USS Wasp at the atomic bomb test in the Bikini Islands and on an expedition to the South Pole.

Bill was a truck driver for Standard Transportation for 25 years, and then worked at Wigwam Saab.

He was a Life Member of the Tri-City Elks Lodge 14, Warwick and a member of the former Eugene T.

Lefebvre VFW Post 1271, Central Falls.

Bill was an avid Red Sox fan.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Donna Gregson and her husband Donald of North Providence, a brother Alexandre Maranda of Woonsocket and a granddaughter, Ashley Gregson.

VISITATION will begin Friday at 9 a.m. at WILLIAM W.

TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St.

Teresa Church, 358 Newport Ave., Pawtucket.

Interment with Military Honors will be at Notre Dame Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904 will be appreciated.
