Pawtucket - Virginia Demers was born in Pawtucket, RI to Jean and Mary (Ritrovato) Vanti. In 1951 Virginia graduated from East High School in Pawtucket. In 1953 she married her soul mate and love of her life, Jack Demers Sr.
She obtained a job at Healthtex, Inc. performing various tasks related to the manufacturing of children’s clothing. She was a Customer Returns Clerk when she retired from Healthtex in 1989. During her lifetime, Virginia was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as Secretary for various committees and served on the Auxiliary’s annual convention committee. In 1985 Virginia became a member of the Children and Youth Committee, serving as secretary and then as chairperson. During her time in the Auxiliary, she held the offices of District President, Department Sargent at Arms several times and State Department President. Virginia and Jack enjoyed family camping trips, taking their children to all of the New England states and various states along the east coast. In their retirement, they continued to travel in their motor home and visited every state except Alaska and Hawaii.
Virginia was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a kind hearted person who was always willing to help those in need. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo and crocheting. Virginia was predeceased by Jack her beloved husband, her parents and her brothers, Jean Vanti and Andy Vanti. Survivors include her children, Jack Demers Jr. and his wife Nance, Cindy Edwards, and Jean Demers and his wife Cheryl; grandchildren, Nicole Arnold and Ed, Jen Clark and Desmond, Meghan Shedrick and Dylan, Ian Edwards and Ashley Emond and Aaron; great-grandchildren, Liam, Brayden, Lily, William, AJ and Emersyn; and her sister Rosalie Locke.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, beginning with Visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. Services will follow at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 S. County Trail, Exeter.

Due to the high flu infection, the family respectfully asks funeral attendees to wear masks. Although the family would like to see everyone, if you have any symptoms, please refrain from attending. The collation following the services is respectfully omitted.
