Little Compton – Thomas R.
Harris, 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Born in Pawtucket to the late John L. and Lucy E. (Ringland) Harris, Tom was married to Bonnie L. (Curtis) Harris for 52 years, and together they raised three children, Scott, Chad, and Kristin, who also survive him.
After serving his country in the U.S.
Air Force during the Vietnam War and obtaining the rank of staff sergeant, Tom achieved degrees from both Roger Williams University and the Wentworth Institute of Technology before serving his community for over two decades as a police officer in Pawtucket.
He retired in 1996 as a Detective Lieutenant and Acting Captain, and later served three years in Bosnia training foreign law enforcement partners on modern and effective policing practices, under contract for the U.S.
Department of Justice.
In addition to his wife and children, Tom is survived by his daughter-in-law, Sandi (Stephens) Harris; his son-in-law, Bryan Diggle; and his grandchildren, William, Catherine, Oliver and Finnley.
He is also survived by his brothers, Steven and John Harris and was pre-deceased by his brother, David.
He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family admiring the birds and wildlife around the home he built in Little Compton, surrounded by a succession of beloved dogs (mostly Weimaraners).
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend VISITATION on Wednesday, May 1st, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at WILLIAM W.
TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, RI.
A brief Prayer Service will conclude the visitation at 1 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
Following this service, Tom will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Union Cemetery, 59 South of Commons Road, Little Compton, relatives and friends are welcome to attend.
