Theodore "Sam" W. Buchanan

East Providence – Theodore “Sam” W. Buchanan, 95, formerly of Rumford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2015. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen B. (Allard) Buchanan. Born in Alton, RI (Village of Richmond), he was a son of the late John Sr. and Alna (Leblanc) Buchanan. Sam was a US Navy veteran of World War II, surviving the sinking of the USS Quincy at Guadalcanal. He also served aboard the USS Santa Fe, earning the World War II Victory; American Defense; American Campaign; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medals, receiving a total of ten battle stars. Sam worked as a steeple jack and union painter for Cornell Construction where he was a foreman until his retirement in 1985. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed playing many East Providence area courses. Sam leaves two step-sons, Robert Lamarche and his wife, Paula of Warwick and William Lamarche of Calimesa, CA; two step-grandsons, Matthew and Stephen Lamarche; three step-great-grandchildren...
