Sylvia Battle

Pawtucket – Sylvia (McGurk) Battle, 76, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, March 17, 2016.

She was the beloved wife of Robert L.

Born in Scotland, she was a daughter of the late John and Rose (Davidson) McGurk.

Sylvia worked at Memorial Hospital of RI for over twenty years.

She was an active and longtime parishioner of St.

Teresa Church, Pawtucket, where she served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist.

Sylvia also volunteered at many of the parish events.

She enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader.

Above all, Sylvia was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, and enjoyed spending time with all of her family, extended family and dear friends.

Besides her loving husband, Sylvia leaves three children, Stephanie Carter and her husband, Stephen of Warwick, Gregory Battle and his longtime companion, Amy Skurka of Johnston and Susan Battle and her husband, Gregory Sorbello of Little Compton; two granddaughters, Sophia and Sarah Carter; two sisters, Janet Kilmurry and Rose Donnelly both in Scotland and many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Anne Spain and William, Thomas and Gerard McGurk.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from WILLIAM W.

TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St.

Teresa Church, 358 Newport Ave.

Interment will follow at Mt.

VISITATION will be Tuesday 4 to 7 p.m.
