Pawtucket – Stephen W. Heaney passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 10, 2026. He was 68.
Steve was a Pawtucket guy, born and raised there. He was the son of the late Francis and Ann (MacRae) Heaney. For most of his working life, he was an exterminator, spending years with various pest control companies across New England before finally retiring in 2022.
Once retired, Steve settled into a routine he loved: long walks with a Dels and feeding the birds down at Slater Memorial Park. If you were looking for him on any given day, that park was a pretty good bet. He was also the kind of die-hard New England sports fan you'd expect from a Pawtucket native — the Patriots and the Red Sox had his loyalty through thick and thin.
Steve leaves behind his daughters, DeAnna M. Petersson and Kristen A. Heaney, and his stepdaughter, Rachel J. Hoegen. He was proud to be a grandfather to Wren, Devyn, Anthony, and Matthew. He's also survived by his siblings, Sandra Paden, Linda Heaney, and Mike Heaney.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 14, 2026, starting at 10 a.m., with a service to follow at 12 p.m., at William W. Tripp Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery on Daggett Ave., Pawtucket. Refreshments will follow.
