Attleboro – Shirley A. (Church) Lucke, 90, passed away peacefully at her home and with her family by her side on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
She was the beloved wife of the late Ernest Lucke.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Mason B. and Marion A. (Pierson) Church.
Shirley worked for over thirty-three years for the City of Attleboro as an auditor until her retirement several years ago.
She was a longtime and devoted member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Seekonk and over the years, has served on nearly every committee and ministry.
Shirley also taught countless children in the church’s Sunday School for well over fifty years.
In addition to her devotion to the church, Shirley was a member of the South Attleboro Village Lions Club and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award for her dedication and service to her community.
She was also an honorary life member of the Cumberland Garden Club, and Women’s Health Initiative for over twenty years.
In more recent days, Shirley took up freehand artistry at the age of 89 years young, and created colorful and detailed images of butterflies, and birds, particularly Cardinals.
Shirley’s infectious and beautiful smile and overall love of God, family, friends and life will live on in the hearts of the countless people whose lives she has touched over the past ninety years.
She leaves three children, Stephen C.
Lucke and his wife, Jo-Ann, of Seekonk, Sheryl A.
Austin and her husband, Dennis, of Cumberland, and Deborah L.
Candage and her husband, Richard, of Attleboro; a sister, Carol B.
Lumb and her husband, William, of South Attleboro; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend SERVICES on Saturday, October 1st at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Baptist Church, 340 Central Ave., Seekonk.
Interment with her late husband at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to either the Memorial Baptist Church or the South Attleboro Village Lions for Eye Research, C/O Pat Salvas, 11 Simpson Ave., South Attleboro, MA 02703 would be appreciated.
