Pawtucket – Savino P. Salerno, 95, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie Cecile (L’Abbe) Salerno. Raised in Providence, a son of the late Biagio and Carmella (DeBonis) Salerno, he resided in Warwick before moving to Pawtucket in 1970. Savino was a graduate of the University of RI and worked for the Leesona Corp. for 30 years. As a member of our “Greatest Generation” he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Thomas Jefferson and was an active participant in the Normandy Invasion of June 6, 1944. He was proud of his Country, Naval Service and Italian Heritage. Savino loved dancing, golf, public speaking, and was a member of the East Bay and Lincoln Toastmasters Clubs and the Gray Panthers. He leaves a sister-in-law, Mrs. Rita (Michael) Salerno; four nephews, Robert, Joseph, William and John Salerno; three nieces, Patricia Oliver, Kathy Ford and Michelle Moynihan and his great friends, Georgina and Mike Morris and Ray Skinner.
