PAWTUCKET - Samuel E.

Hanna, 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 25th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband of the late Bernice (Nessralla) Hanna for 46 years.

A lifetime resident of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Louis and Margaret (Arouchon) Hanna.

Sam was cared for and respected by all of those he encountered in his life.

His ready smile and kind demeanor made him easy to love.

He proudly served his country in the Korean War during his early years before becoming a cobbler for most of his adult life, working within Shepard's Department Store until its closing in 1975.

From there, Sam transitioned into a position working as a housing inspector for the city of Pawtucket.

During his tenure at the city, Sam became intimately involved with the Professional and Technical Workers Union RI Local 94, of which he eventually became President.

At the time of his retirement, he was the oldest and longest serving city employee.

He worked there for almost 40 years when he retired at the early age of 85.

Sam was a devoted communicant of St Basil the Great Church where he actively served on the Parish Council for many years.

The Hanna family would like to thank the caring staff at Tockwotton on the Waterfront for their work and heartfelt compassion over recent years.

He is survived by two children, Michael Hanna and his wife, Julie, of Wakefield, and Sam Hanna, Jr. and his wife, Laurie, of Exeter; four grandchildren, Michael, Rachel, Sam, III and David and two sisters, Mary Allcock and Liz Edwards.

He was the grandfather of the late Greg Hanna, and brother of the late Anne Jarjoura and Lilian DeFusco.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend visitation on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. at WILLIAM W.

TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St.
