Pawtucket – Robert “Lefty” S.
Lyons, 96, passed away on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21, 2020.
A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Sylvester T. and Marion I. (O’Donnell) Lyons.
Bob proudly enlisted in the United States Army on March 8, 1943 at the age of nineteen and landed on Normandy Beach on June 9, 1944 – three days after D-Day.
He participated in campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.
He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant on December 2, 1945 with five combat battle citations including the Battle of the Bulge with General Patton.
Bob was employed by Corning Glass Works, Central Falls, for forty-three years before retiring.
He was a member of the former BPOE Lodge No. 920, Pawtucket.
An avid golfer, he was a league member at Stone-E-Lea Golf Course, Attleboro.
Bob enjoyed time spent at the former Narragansett Race Track and he also enjoyed playing cards, dancing and boxing.
Bob leaves a daughter, Robin L.
Allard of Pawtucket; a sister, Grace M.
Lyons with whom he resided; a grandson, Brandon R.
Allard of South Carolina; a great-grandson, Brayden A.
Allard of Central Falls; two nieces, Patricia A.
Hinchey and Kathryn L.
Tracy and a nephew, Paul P.
He was the brother of the late Eleanor T.
Lyons who passed away on June 22, 2020, Dorothy T.
Services with Military Honors followed by interment with his late sister, Dorothy, at Mt.
Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket, will be private.
Visitation and flowers are respectfully omitted.
Memorial gifts in Bob’s memory to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
