Pawtucket – Rita Patricia McKinnon (Cahill), formerly of the City of Pawtucket and a summer resident of Matunuck, Rhode Island, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018.
She was the beloved wife of the late Daniel F.
McKinnon for 67 years.
Rita was born on May 23, 1917 and was blessed with a full life that spanned 100 plus years.
Rita was the mother of five children; Kathleen Leonard (deceased) and her husband, Arthur (deceased); Daniel V.
McKinnon and his wife, Corinne; George D.
McKinnon and his wife, Dianne; Mary E.
Auclair and her husband, Russell; Ann M.
Quinn and her husband, David.
She was the grandmother of 13 grandchildren; Arthur Leonard, Daniel Leonard, Kathleen Rubino, Matthew Leonard, John Leonard, Daniel J.
McKinnon, Michael McKinnon, Keith Auclair, David Auclair, David Quinn, Patrick Quinn and Matthew Quinn.
She also had 21 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was the daughter of the late George Cahill and Catherine (Hart) Cahill.
She had two sisters; Helen Giblin (deceased) and her twin sister Ann Golden (deceased).
Rita was a woman of substance and great insight.
She was a practicing Catholic and for years was a member of St.
Mary’s Parish in Seekonk, Massachusetts now known as “Our Lady Queen of Martyrs.” In her later life she was a member of St.
Margaret Parish in Rumford, Rhode Island.
Rita dedicated her life to her family.
Her love for her husband, Dan was without bounds.
Her love and protection of her children was beyond question.
She ensured that they were all raised as practicing Catholics and were afforded the opportunity for a fine education.
She was, till the very end, a shining example of love, goodness and family values.
Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. from WILLIAM W.
TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St.
Margaret Church, 1098 Pawtucket Ave., Rumford.
Interment will follow at Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.
VISITATION will be Thursday, 4 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Catholic Charity Fund Appeal, One Cathedral Square, Providence, RI 02903 will be appreciated.
