Pawtucket – Raymond F. Mathieu, 102, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 24, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Anna D. (Raftery) Mathieu and longtime companion of Nancy McAdams of Pawtucket. A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Francis X. and Jenny (George) Mathieu. Ray was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who proudly served his country overseas as a Master Sergeant. He and his late father were the founders of the former East Side Checker Club on Benefit Street in Pawtucket, which Ray owned and operated for sixty-five years until retiring in January 2014. Ray loved his customers and shared their many anniversaries, birthdays, and other celebrations over the decades. Ray was a communicant of St. Teresa Church where he regularly brought his homemade chicken soup to parishioners in need. He was a member of the Attleboro Lodge of Elks #1014 for fifty-five years and the Knights of Columbus. Ray was also a longtime member of the Crestwood Country Club in Rehoboth,...
