Pawtucket – Raymond F.
Mathieu, 102, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 24, 2021.
He was the beloved husband of the late Anna D. (Raftery) Mathieu and longtime companion of Nancy McAdams of Pawtucket.
A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Francis X. and Jenny (George) Mathieu.
Ray was a World War II U.S.
Army veteran who proudly served his country overseas as a Master Sergeant.
He and his late father were the founders of the former East Side Checker Club on Benefit Street in Pawtucket, which Ray owned and operated for sixty-five years until retiring in January 2014.
Ray loved his customers and shared their many anniversaries, birthdays, and other celebrations over the decades.
Ray was a communicant of St.
Teresa Church where he regularly brought his homemade chicken soup to parishioners in need.
He was a member of the Attleboro Lodge of Elks #1014 for fifty-five years and the Knights of Columbus.
Ray was also a longtime member of the Crestwood Country Club in Rehoboth, MA, where he enjoyed playing golf regularly with his longtime golfing buddies.
Ray loved to travel with his family and friends and enjoyed driving with the top down on his yellow 1968 Cadillac convertible.
Always smiling, he truly loved life and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Besides his longtime companion, he leaves two children and their spouses, Raymond M. and Lucy F.
Mathieu of Providence and Deborah and Tony Miguel of Cumberland; three grandchildren, Jill A.
Teixeira and her husband, John, of Cumberland, Raymond G.
Mathieu of Pawtucket and Marc D.
Mathieu of Providence and two great-granddaughters, Joy and Hope Teixeira.
He was the brother of the late Armand Mathieu and Claire Caufield.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 29th at 10:00 a.m. in St.
Teresa Church, 358 Newport Ave., Pawtucket.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.
VISITATION will be held on Thursday, October 28th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in WILLIAM W.
TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket.
