Pawtucket – Norma M. Jenckes Bains, 79, a well-known professor, poet and playwright, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, December 19, 2022. She was the beloved wife of Yashdip S. Bains. The couple had been married for fifty-two years. Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Norman E. and Margaret (Coleman) Jenckes. Norma resided in Pawtucket until moving to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1985, she resided in Cincinnati for twenty-nine years before returning to Pawtucket in 2014. Norma was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy, Providence, where she went on to be an educator. She was a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she received her PhD. Norma was a former associate professor at Bryant University; professor emerita at the University of Cincinnati and professor of English at the University of Cincinnati until retiring in 2014.
