Norma I. Huyck

Norma I. Huyck, 91, passed away on October 30, 2025, at Tockwotton on the Waterfront. She was the wife of the late Jan V. Huyck to whom she was married for 52 years. Born in Minnesota, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Stella Bork. Norma recently moved to East Providence, RI. She and her husband lived in Wethersfield and Glastonbury, Connecticut for many years and in South County, Rhode Island and Naples, Florida after retirement.

She graduated with a BS from Iowa State University and a MS from University of Connecticut. Norma was Professor Emeritus at the University of Connecticut, School of Allied Health Professions at Storrs. Professionally, she also worked for Hartford Hospital’s School of Nursing, the Hartford Health Department Maternal and Child Division and as the Director of the WIC program. She was a consultant for the Community Renewal Team of Greater Hartford and Rhode Island’s Early Intervention program and was on faculty at Charter Oak College in CT. She presented and published several professional papers, including the book Managing Clinical Nutrition Services. She was a member of the American Dietetic Association, including its national accreditation team for colleges and hospitals, Kappa Delta sorority and Mortar Board.

Norma was a 50-year member of the First Church of Christ in Wethersfield, CT as well as a member of the Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church in Naples, FL. She was a caring and committed wife and mother who loved family, politics, the beach and watching football. She and her husband traveled extensively in the US and abroad.

She leaves two children, Myrna Elderkin and her husband William, and her daughter Jennifer Gagnon in Massachusetts; and Brenda Hebert and her husband Norman, and their children Christopher and Mark, as well as their families, including Norma’s three great grandchildren in Connecticut. She also leaves William's children Ashley and Jade, and their families. She was predeceased by a sister Judith Scott from Minnesota.

Services will be private. Arrangements are in the care of William W. Tripp Funeral Home, Pawtucket, RI www.TrippFuneralHome.com. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, 7168 Columbia Gateway Drive, Columbia, MD 21046 (www.blindness.org) would be appreciated.
