Pawtucket – Dr. Nora M. Walker, 87, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013. She was the beloved wife of Joseph Parfenchuck for twenty-seven years. Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Dada) Walker. Nora had been employed at the Biltmore Hotel, Providence, until moving to Washington, DC where she was employed at the State Department. She returned to RI and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Rhode Island College; Master’s Degree in Reading from the University of Rhode Island and a Doctorate in Philosophy from Syracuse University. She worked as a Reading Specialist in Cranston and also served as Assistant Director of Elementary Education for the City of Warwick until retiring in 1985. Nora was a lifelong and very active member of St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, where she served on the Church Council; sang in the Choir and was a former Superintendent of the Cemetery.
