Maryann Healey

August 24, 1941 — October 22, 2017

Maryann (Gleckman) Healey, 76, of Smithfield, RI, and formerly of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, surrounded by her family and friends at Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of RI in Providence.

Born Aug. 24, 1941, Maryann was the dear wife of the late Dr.

Healey and a beloved daughter of the late Maurice and Ruth (Suprenard) Gleckman of Pawtucket.

She was the devoted mother of four children; son Shawn F. (Colette) Healey of Libertyville, IL; and daughters Lisa H. (Drew) Nelson of Duxbury, MA; Kathleen T. (Glen) Oemcke of Southbury, CT; and Deirdre S. (Teresa Dowd) Healey of Pawtucket.

Dedicated sister of Judith A. (Roger) Sisson of Pawtucket, Maryann also was the loving “Grandy” to 17 grandchildren:  Connor, Shannon, Shelagh and Brendan Healey of Libertyville, IL; Jessica, Sara, Grace, Molly, Jack and Benjamin Nelson of Duxbury, MA; and Evan, Jason, Lauren, Katelyn, Meghan, Ellen and Ryan Oemcke of Southbury, CT; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A devout and dedicated Catholic, Maryann was a parishioner at St.

Michael’s Church in Smithfield, RI.

Xavier Academy, Providence, and Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, in Pawtucket, from which she graduated in 1962.

She began her nursing career at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital, where she met Dr.

Shortly after their marriage on Sept. 7, 1963, they moved to Cork, Ireland, where Dr.

Healey was completing his residency at University College, Cork.

After raising four children, Maryann continued her nursing career, working alongside her husband Dr.

Healey in his obstetrics practice.

Years later, Maryann transitioned to Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island, where she worked as a Home Hospice Nurse for 22 years.

Throughout her lifelong nursing career, Maryann touched the lives of many expectant mothers, as well as patients at the end of their life journey and their families.

She was adored and admired by co-workers and patients, alike.

Maryann’s service to others was not limited to her nursing skills.

An excellent cook, Maryann loved preparing meals for family and friends and delighted in entertaining large crowds.

She also could tell you where to find the best bargains on the best brands anywhere.

Maryann raised shopping to an art form.

And it showed…she was well known for her stylish outfits (usually in a shade of purple), coordinating jewelry, fabulous shoes and matching pocketbooks.

Maryann had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh, which she gladly shared with the world.

She was particular about things – a perfectionist – but never hesitated to laugh at herself with a self-effacing humility.

An avid reader and Bridge player, Maryann also loved challenging family and friends to Scrabble and other games.

Maryann recognized beauty everywhere…in her lovingly-tended gardens; in music; in the small dogs she owned and adored; in her beautiful home, which she meticulously decorated; and in the many countries she traveled (especially Ireland).

But most of all, Maryann saw beauty in others – family or stranger; co-worker or patient; newborn or end-of-life journeyer.

And everyone who knew Maryann recognized the beauty in her.
