Mary Y. (Coppolino) Kenny, of Cape Coral, FL, passed away peacefully while sleeping on Friday, January 27, 2023.
She was the beloved wife of Gardner Kenny.
Born in Pawtucket, RI, she was the eldest daughter of the late Dominic and Carmela Coppolino.
Mary graduated from East High School in Pawtucket, RI where she won a scholarship to the New England Institute of Art.
While she was unable to attend due to family responsibilities, she never lost her passion for painting.
She continued producing artwork her entire life bringing endless joy and preserved memories to her friends and family.
She primarily worked in acrylic, oil and pastels painting everything from landscapes, animals, still life and portraits.
She was never happier than she was with a paintbrush in her hand and her favorite subjects to paint were her many grandchildren.
Aside from her beautiful artwork, she had many other life accomplishments.
She began working as a seamstress at a very young age repairing and designing garments.
She made most of her children’s clothing with love and fine attention to detail.
From there, she worked her way through many roles, eventually leading her to the position of Purchasing Assistant at Miriam Hospital.
She ended her career as Bookkeeper for the Secretary of State of Rhode Island.
Above all other things, Mary was a caregiver.
She cared deeply for her family and always left her door open for any family member who might need to stay a while.
She was an incredible cook who taught her children to create and appreciate a good meal.
Mary moved from Pawtucket, RI to Cape Coral, FL in 1997 where she met her spouse and enjoyed her retirement.
Besides her loving husband, she leaves behind her children, Alan (Fred) Simmons and his wife Jovy, Pauline Kinder and her husband Donald, and John Simmons and his wife Sara; two sisters, Connie Andrews and Milly LaChance; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She also leaves behind her husband’s children and grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her son David Simmons and her brothers, Jack, Frank and Dominic Coppolino.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Funeral Service on Saturday, February 18th at Noon at WILLIAM W.
TRIPP Funeral Home located at 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, RI.
Mary’s family will receive visitors beginning at 10 a.m. until Noon, when the Service will begin.
