Seekonk - Mary Joyce Brown, 91, died at home on Sept 27th 2024.
She was the wife of Donald Hilton Brown for 72 years.
Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Joyce was a Seekonk resident most of her life.
She was the daughter of Alexander Ross Matthews and Elizabeth Mae (MacIver) of Ricard Street.
Joyce was employed by Westcott Construction for many years.
She started as a secretary and through her hard work and talent became Executive Vice-President of Administration.
Joyce was a woman of deep faith and an active member of Memorial Baptist Church.
She taught Sunday School for over 50 years and was recognized for this accomplishment in May 2010.
Her love of children was legendary and many of her former students enrolled their children into her Sunday school class.
She donated to many worthwhile charities but her first priority was always to Memorial Baptist Church.
She accompanied the pastor on his weekly visitations to the sick and house bound, and always followed up with phone calls.
She was quick to welcome visitors and introduce them to members.
Her kindness to others and her willingness to help all in need is her legacy.
Her devotion to God and daily scripture reading was the essence of her life.
Joyce was humble and downplayed her many contributions.
She was everything that is good and worthwhile in humanity.
Joyce died nine days after her beloved husband passed away.
She leaves two sons, Douglas S. of Seekonk and David W. of Cumberland, RI, a sister, Barbara Ross of Seekonk, a brother-in-law, George Doucette of Providence, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services will be private.
