Maria C. Ruben

Pawtucket – Maria C. (Freitas) Ruben, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. She was a 20 year breast cancer survivor. Maria was born in Horta, Faial, Azores, Portugal, to the late Francisco and Agar (Martins) Freitas. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Ruben for 49 years. She and Antonio came to the United States to raise their family following the 1958 eruption of the Capelinhos Volcano in Faial. Maria was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and a member of the União Portuguesa Beneficente, both in Pawtucket. She was an avid reader and enjoyed writing poetry. Maria leaves five children, Rosa Medeiros of Warwick, Antonio Ruben, Jr. and his wife, Rose of Rumford, Mario Ruben and his wife, Maritza of Pawtucket, Francisco Ruben and his wife, Jennifer of Oakton, VA and Grace Ruben of New York, NY; six siblings, Maria Francisca Leandres, Massama, Portugal, Maria Jose Fernandes, Sao Miguel, Azores, Maria de Fatima Rose, Waltham, MA, Maria do Rosario Brandao, Sao Miguel, Azores,...
