Pawtucket – Maria Jose Rocha (Mendes) Cristino, 90, passed away, surrounded by family, on Thursday, June 15, 2023.
She was the beloved wife of Manuel Jesus Cristino for sixty-four years.
Born in Vale Formoso, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Mendes Alberto and Rosa Rocha Nave.
Maria emigrated to the United States and settled in Pawtucket in 1966.
She worked for the New England Linen Supply Company for many years until her retirement.
Maria was a longtime parishioner of St.
Anthony Church in Pawtucket.
She was devoted to caring and cooking for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her rice pudding and French fries were loved by all.
Maria loved her dear friends, her family, and everyone who met her was sure to comment on what a strong, kind and loving person she was.
Alongside her husband, Maria leaves two sons, Alfredo M.
Cristino and his wife, Lurdes, and Horacio (Hersh) M.
Cristino and his wife, Lynn, all of Seekonk; four grandchildren, Anna Lucivero and her husband, David, Jenny Cristino and her fiancé, Tom Gilchrist, Noah Cristino, and Kyle Cristino; three great-grandchildren, Logan Lucivero, Lucas Gilchrist, and Londyn Lucivero; a sister, Maria Judite Rocha Mendes Reis of Portugal, and brother Alfredo Rocha Mendes and his wife, Maria do Carmo, of Pawtucket; a nephew Alfred Mendes and his wife, Kathy, a niece Natalia Reis and her husband, Feliz Cardoso, and her niece Betty Mendes.
She was the grandmother of the late Abby Marie Cristino, and the sister-in-law of the late Horacio Reis.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 21st at 9 a.m. from WILLIAM W.
TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St.
Anthony Church, 32 Lawn Ave., Pawtucket.
Interment will follow at Mount Saint Mary Cemetery.
VISITATION will be held on Tuesday, June 20th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome, in her name, to St.
Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St.
Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105, or we encourage you to plant a tree or annual plant in your garden in Maria’s memory to enjoy for the years ahead.
