Kevin Whalen

Jun 23, 1967 — Aug 30, 2026

Pawtucket - Kevin J. Whalen, 59, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, August 30, 2026. He was the son of the late Douglas A. and Elaine D. (Godin) Whalen.

Kevin was a graduate of Davies Vocational High School and Roger Williams University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. Born in Pawtucket, he lived in Attleboro for twenty-two years before returning to his hometown. He went on to serve the people of Pawtucket as a member of the Pawtucket Police Department for twenty-four years, retiring with the rank of captain. He earned several awards and accolades for his work with the police department, a job he truly loved. In more recent years, Kevin was a candidate for Rhode Island House of Representatives District 61 and enjoyed continuing to serve his community.

In his younger years, Kevin was an avid runner and enjoyed the sport until injuries prevented him from pursuing his passion. He also enjoyed listening to his favorite band, The Who, and other classic rock; loved going to concerts with his friends and watching the Boston Celtics and the New York Giants. In addition to his interests in music and sports, Kevin served as a youth baseball coach for his son's team and was, above all, a devoted and loving father to his only son, Jonathan.

Kevin loved spending time with his family and will be lovingly remembered as a devoted son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who was always present and willing to help anyone in need.

Kevin leaves his beloved son, Jonathan K. Whalen and his wife, Kathleen, of Boston; his beautiful six-week-old granddaughter, Isabelle Whalen; his four siblings, Michael Whalen and his wife, Liz; Holli Keough and her husband, Troy; Heather Camirand and her husband, Joseph; Jimmy Calacone and his wife, Lori; and his brother-in-law, Raymond Parris, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lori Parris.
