East Providence - Kathleen V. (Shinkwin) Dix, 78, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert D. Dix. Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Helen (Porter) Shinkwin.
Kathleen worked for New England Linen Supply. She then volunteered for several years at Memorial Hospital before subsequently taking a position in the kitchen, retiring in 2007. She enjoyed visits to the casino, playing bingo and going to the Dollar Store. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends at Waterview Villa in East Providence, where she resided for the past several years. She also loved anything with her favorite color, purple. In her younger days, Kathleen enjoyed caring for her beloved cats, dogs and birds.
Kathleen's family would like to say thank you to the staff of Waterview Villa who cared for her over the past 10 years. Also, they would like to express their deepest gratitude to the caring nurses of Beacon Hospice for their compassionate care in her sunset days.
She will be lovingly remembered by all whose lives she has touched over the past seventy-eight years.
Kathleen leaves three daughters, Kathleen M. Dieter and her husband, Richard, of East Providence, Sharon M. Terceira and her husband, Matthew, of No. Scituate, and Linda A. Lafreniere and her husband, Raymond, of Warwick; seven grandchildren, Justin Morris and his wife, Tori, Zachary Morris and his fiancée, Allison Beattie, Kaitlynn Morris, Rachel Terceira, Levi Terceira, Emily Lafreniere and Danielle Lafreniere; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Luke Morris; a sister, Jean Peters and her husband, John, of Myrtle Beach, SC; a sister-in-law, Linda Shinkwin of Weymouth, MA and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Helen and Mary Shinkwin, Margaret Durfee and her husband, John, Deanna McGrath and her husband, Bob and her brother Daniel Shinkwin.
VISITATION will be held on Saturday, August 1st from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Church, 116 Danielson Pike, Foster. Burial at Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery will be private.
