Sousa, 82, passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side at eleven o’clock a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
He was the beloved husband of Eduarda B. (Botelho) Sousa for fifty-three loving years and courted for five years prior.
Born on São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Francisco and Cristina (Mello) Sousa.
José served in the Portuguese Army in the 1960’s, and immigrated to Bristol, Rhode Island in 1969.
He was a hard worker and did so to provide his family with a beautiful life.
José worked for many years as a machine operator at the former Royal Electric (ITT) in Pawtucket until retiring several years ago.
He enjoyed making homemade wine, cheering on his favorite soccer team, Benfica, and spending time with his family and dear friends.
José will be lovingly remembered by all whose lives he has touched over the past eighty-two years.
Besides his beloved wife, José leaves two children, Paula C.
Paluch and her husband, Edward, of Swansea, and Jorge B.
Sousa and his wife, Jodie, of Seekonk; five grandchildren, Tyler and his wife, Shelby, Wendy, Joshua, Nicholas and Abby; two great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Kendall; a sister, Deolinda Tavares and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother-in-law of the late Antoino Tavares.
The funeral will be held on Friday, November 22nd at 11 a.m. from WILLIAM W.
TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish, Coyle Dr., Seekonk.
Interment will follow at the Seekonk Dexter Avenue Cemetery.
VISITATION will be held on Thursday, November 21st from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN.org), 1500 Rosecrans Blvd., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 would be appreciated.
