John P. Sweeney

Seekonk, MA – John Patrick Sweeney, 81, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Janice M. (Souza) Sweeney for sixty-three years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John P. Sweeney, Sr. and Mabel D. (Arms) Sweeney.

John worked as a Smelter for Engelhard Industries/Corporation and Metalor Technologies for many years and was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great - grandfather who loved spending time with his family. Blessed with many skills, John enjoyed tinkering with his tractor equipment, playing cards with friends, attending Nascar races with family, and designing beautifully landscaped ponds for his Koi Fish. He also enjoyed annual vacations at his timeshare in Sint Maarten. John was a member of Elks Lodge 1014 in Attleboro, MA.

Alongside his wife, he leaves behind his beloved children; Joyce Sweeney of North Dighton, MA and Jo-Ann Soares (Kevin) of Port St. Lucie, FL, grandchildren, Ryan Soares, Kyle Soares, Alyssia Clifford, and Krisa Sweeney, and siblings, Patricia Raposa, Kathleen “Kathy” Grillo, and Olive Sturtevant.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Janice Oliveira, two grandchildren, and his sister, Alice Leach.

The FUNERAL SERVICE will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 12PM at the WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave. Pawtucket. Interment will follow at Seekonk Cemetery.

VISITATION will be held at the Funeral Home prior to the service from 10AM-12PM.
