East Providence – John J. Slater, 89, of Rumford, passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side on Sunday, April 3, 2022. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth E. (Field) Slater, who passed in September of 2021. Born in Washington, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Michael P. Sr. and Ada (McMahon) Slater. John was a Korean War veteran and was proud of his four years of service in the U. S. Air Force, being honorably discharged. He worked for thirty-one years as a dealer account manager for Ford Motor Credit Co., retiring in 1996. More recently, he had a “second career” at the Hillside Country Club in Rehoboth, where he worked for ten years. John was a devoted communicant of St. Margaret Parish in Rumford and was an avid golfer and fisherman. He leaves two daughters, Mary Regina Slater (John Menissian) of Rumford and Catherine O’Brien (James) in Indiana; two grandchildren, Ronald Turner of Maine, and Kylie Turner; a sister, Mary Regina “Polly” Dowling in Pennsylvania and several...
