John Salhany

March 17, 1929 — April 30, 2025

John Salhany, age 96, fell asleep in the Lord, peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, at Steer House Nursing Home, on, April 30, 2025.

John, was born on St.

Patrick’s Day, 1929, in Central Falls, RI.

He was raised in a loving and faith-filled home by his late parents, Ethel (Nahas) Salhany and Kamel Salhany, along with his three brothers and four sisters.

John, cherished and was deeply devoted to his family, caring for his late siblings with unwavering love and support until their dying days.

Due to his warm, thoughtful, and self-less nature throughout his life he made many strong, enduring friendships.

Among John’s most endearing trait was his goodness and kindness; he always demonstrated an altruistic loyalty toward family and friends, and helped many of them.

He graduated with honors, from Central Falls High School in 1947.

In 1951, during the Korean War he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country.

After completion of his military service and a short time working in his family’s grocery store, John enrolled in the, University of Rhode Island, and was awarded a degree in Engineering in 1962.

In, 1965, John, a Industrial Engineer, began a long successful career at, Brown & Sharpe Manufacturing Company where he was honored with awards for his contributions to the development of precision tools and equipment.

He was completely devoted to his family and he was especially proud of his thirteen nieces and nephews, who in turn adored him.

A lifelong parishioner of St.

Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church in Pawtucket, he was deeply devoted to his faith and actively supported the church community.

John devotion to his family brought him great joy throughout his life.

He treasured time with his family, and nothing gave him more comfort than being surrounded by them—even to his dying day.

John is survived by his beloved sister, Lorice Zahka of Dedham, MA, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Margaret Haley, Ida Lavin, and Lily Salhany, and by his brothers William, Fred, and Robert Salhany.

VISITATION will be held at St.

Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 249 High St., Pawtucket, beginning on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.

Interment with Military Honors will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Pawtucket.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to St.

Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 249 High St., Pawtucket, RI 02860 would be appreciated.
