Monahan, 87, passed away peacefully at home with his daughter by his side on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.
He was the beloved husband of the late Joan R. (O’Brien) Monahan, who passed away this past February.
A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was a son of the late John and Ann (Reddington) Monahan.
John served in the United States Navy and went on to a career as a real estate agent.
He worked for several years at Century 21 and more recently as the proprietor of John E.
John was a devoted and loving husband and great dad.
He was also a doting uncle, and a lover of animals, especially cats, and will be lovingly remembered as a kind, generous man with a great sense of humor.
In his younger days, John was also very active in Pawtucket city politics, and enjoyed visits to the Raynham Racetrack to watch the dog races.
He leaves a loving daughter, Jane A.
Monahan, with whom John made his home in Pawtucket, two granddaughters, Jenny Sheehan of Pawtucket, and Patricia Monahan of Warwick; five great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, MaryAnn Monahan of North Providence, two sisters-in-law, Brenda Beauregard of Pawtucket, and Karen A.
Bradbury of Foxboro, and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Patrick M.
Monahan and the brother of the late Hugh Monahan, and Marilyn Johnson.
VISITATION will begin on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at WILLIAM W.
TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon in St.
Teresa Church, 358 Newport Ave., Pawtucket.
Interment will follow at Mount Saint Mary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Pawtucket Animal Shelter, C/O Pawtucket P.D. 121 Roosevelt Ave., Pawtucket, RI 02860 would be appreciated.
