Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late John, Sr. and Ruth (Thurber) Kent. A U.S. Army veteran, John proudly served his country in Germany during the Vietnam War. John graduated from the former Pawtucket Vocational High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Johnson & Wales University, Providence. He worked as a U.S. postal carrier for over thirty years at the Darlington and Cumberland branches until his retirement in 1999. John was a former board member of the German-American Cultural Society, Pawtucket, and former Secretary of the Seekonk Rod & Gun Club, MA. He is survived by a beloved son, Mark J.
