John "Papa" H. Rossi

East Providence - John “Papa” H. Rossi, 86, of Rumford, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn H. (Jones) Rossi for 49 years. Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Darlene Rossi Wood and her husband, Earl Wood of Cumberland. He was the proud Papa to Erin and Justin Wood. Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Peter Rossi, Sr. and Mary L. (Danz) Rossi, he resided in Pawtucket until moving to Rumford 49 years ago. John was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and served at Pearl Harbor. He was a toolmaker by trade and retired from the Providence Post Office in 1989. John loved spending time at the ocean, playing cards and being on the golf course with friends and family. Papa cherished his grandchildren. John’s family and friends will miss his quick wit and sense of humor. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Services with Military Honors on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Historic Swan Point Chapel, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence. Interment will follow.
