John B. Bonaventure

March 16, 1925 — July 13, 2022

Bonaventure, 97, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 13, 2022.

He was the beloved husband of the late Rose A. (Rafferty) Bonaventure, who passed away in May of 2021.

Born in Central Falls, he was one of eleven children of the late Joseph and Mary (Robichaud) Bonaventure.

John was a United States Army veteran of World War II and was a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster recipient for injuries sustained while in combat in Italy on both February 7, 1944 and April 7, 1944.

Following the war, John went on to become the proprietor of Bonaventure’s Ice Cream in Pawtucket, and in more recent times he worked as the head of security at the RISD Museum.

John was also very handy, he could fix just about anything and was known by his family and friends as “Mr.

He also enjoyed traveling, both he and his late wife, enjoyed visiting destinations throughout Ireland, France, and the United States.

Above all, John was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, who put family before all else.

He will be lovingly remembered by all whose lives he has touched over the past ninety-seven years.

John leaves four children, Mary B.

Bonaventure and his wife, Christine, of Harleysville, PA, and Martina M.

Fleury and her husband, Robert, of Pawtucket; seven grandchildren, Michael, Sean, and Emily Bonaventure, John and Alexandra Rahill, Ethan, and Nicholas Fleury; a son-in-law, Paul Rahill of Billerica, MA, a brother, Anthony “Tony” Bonaventure in Maine, and many nieces and nephews.

John was the father of the late Maureen Rahill and he was also predeceased by nine of his siblings.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 23rd at 10 a.m. from WILLIAM W.

TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St.

John Paul II Parish) 755 Central Ave., Pawtucket.

Interment will follow in the family plot at Notre Dame Cemetery.

VISITATION will be held on Friday, July 22nd from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
