EAST PROVIDENCE—James W. Kenny, Jr., 91, of Rumford, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2012. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie E. (Gallagher) Kenny, to whom he had been married for 60 years.Born in Central Falls, a son of the late James W. Sr. and Emma V. (Wassmer) Kenny, he resided in Rumford for almost 50 years. He grew up in Pawtucket and maintained a lifelong fondness for the city, often reminiscing about meeting friends at Pinault’s corner, skating at Slater Park, playing ball at “the old mud pond” (current site of McCoy Stadium) and caddying at the Pawtucket Country Club. He was a longtime communicant of St. Margaret’s Church in Rumford.James was a graduate of Pawtucket High School East (Tolman High School) and attended Bryant College. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, who saw combat duty in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters of Operation, serving on numerous ships and stations.
