Jaime A. Silva

July 6, 1942 — August 15, 2016

Silva, 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family members on Monday, August 15, 2016.

He was the husband of Hortense L. (Cabral) Silva and the late Maria J. (Sousa) Silva to whom he was married for thirty-six years until she passed away on April 23, 2004.

Born in Sao Barnabe, Alentejo, Portugal, he was a son of the late Manuel A.

Silva and Julia do Rosario.

He enlisted in the Portuguese Navy in 1962 where he served on the Navy ship NRP Sagres.

Jaime and his late wife, Maria came to the United States in May of 1970 and settled in East Providence before moving to Pawtucket in 1977.

He was employed by the American Insulated Wire Company, Pawtucket until opening his own drywall and finishing company, J.

Silva Contractor, Inc.

Jaime was the proprietor of Gigi’s Portuguese Family Restaurant on Lonsdale Ave., Pawtucket from 1986 until 1993.

Most recently, he was employed for nine years at the Rhode Island School of Design until retiring.

Jaime was a member of Uniao Portuguesa Beneficente and Grupo Amigos da Terceira of Pawtucket.

He enjoyed gardening; making wine; playing cards and was an avid Domino player and devoted Benfica fan.

Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters from his late first wife, Ellen Girelli of Attleboro, Julia Teixeira and her husband, Steven of Foxboro and Inez Silva of Pawtucket; a grandson, Evan Girelli of Attleboro and six siblings, Americo da Silva, Noemia Rodrigues, Antonio da Silva, Esperanca Palma, Maria Valentina Palma and Maria Joselia Rodrigues all of Portugal.

His funeral will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. from WILLIAM W.

TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in St.

Cecilia Church, 755 Central Ave., Pawtucket.

Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.

VISITATION will be Thursday 4 to 7 p.m.
