Pawtucket - Irving "Chet" E. Baker, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. He was the beloved husband of the late Yvette F. (Desrochers) Baker, married 55 years prior to her passing in 2021.
A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Irving E., Sr., and Margaret V. (Barker) Baker.
Chet worked as a mechanic for over forty years at Fram Corp. until its closing and went on to work odd jobs as a jack-of-all-trades. He was always very handy and talented as a mechanic, carpenter, gardener and landscaper. Chet was always more than happy to help relatives, friends and neighbors alike with everything from repairing their cars to cutting their lawns. Chet was an avid NASCAR and stock car racing fan, loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed frequent visits to local restaurants. He will be lovingly remembered by all whose lives he has touched over the past eighty-two years.
Chet leaves two children, Irving "Chet" E. Baker, III and his wife, Leanne, of Exeter, and Robin Mercier and her husband, William, of Attleboro; four grandchildren, William Mercier, Jr., Corey Baker, Kristen Lakoma and her husband, Luke, and Rebecca Leach; four great-grandchildren, Mia Baker, Lola Wyman, Benjamin and Adam Lakoma; three siblings, Robert "Pete" Baker of Maine, Carol Baker and Janice Charette, both of Cumberland, and many nieces and nephews. Chet found comfort and companionship spending time with his beloved dog, Abby Rose, always by his side.
