Pawtucket - Irene Marguerite Berthelette, 101, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 30, 2026, surrounded by the prayer and song of the Little Sisters of the Poor at Jeanne Jugan Residence. As the final hymn was coming to an end, Irene passed peacefully like a “little candle burning out”, said one of the Sisters.
Born in Quebec, Canada, she was a daughter of the late George J. and Dora (Blanchard) Berthelette. Irene began her working career at 15 years old. Her interest in cosmetology and a desire to own her own business motivated her to pursue her license in cosmetology while working full-time. After completing her training and receiving her beauticians license, she opened her own business, The Princess Beauty Shoppe, in Pawtucket. She managed a thriving business there for thirty years. After retirement, Irene continued to work part time in hairdressing and in various businesses in Pawtucket.
Irene enjoyed crafting and ceramics, often making gifts for family members’ weddings; her many creations in ceramic continue to adorn many homes. One of her greatest joys was vacationing with family and friends.
Irene was a powerful force of prayer and sacrifice during her lifetime. Her honest, dedicated, and humble faith has been and always will be a compelling example to all who knew her and were blessed to have such a strong and reliable advocate. Irene knew that trust and faith did not need words. Her example of quiet and unassuming trust and faith in God spoke volumes. Irene will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to walk life’s journey with her.
She leaves behind her beloved siblings, Romain “Shorty” Berthelette of Pawtucket, Solange Bertrand of Pawtucket, Grace Doyan of Maine, and Terry Berthelette of Pawtucket, a lifelong friend, Carole Aliskevicz of Pawtucket, and three generations of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Laudia Beland, Rene Berthelette, Laurent Berthelette, Germain Berthelette, Jeannine Johnson, Paul Emile Berthelette, Roger Berthelette, and Germaine Farrell, and two stepsisters, Theresa Thurber and Annette Johnson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 11:00AM at St. Cecilia Church of St. John Paul II Parish, 755 Central Avenue, Pawtucket. Interment will follow at St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Attleboro, MA.
Visitation will be held prior to the Mass from 9:00AM-10:00AM at the WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Avenue Pawtucket.
