Lincoln – Hilda L. Eichin, R.N., 86, a resident at The Holiday Retirement Home, Manville, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011. Born in Pawtucket on March 8, 1925, she was a 1943 graduate of Tolman High School (formerly East High School) and trained to be a Registered Nurse at the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing under the US Cadet Nurse Corps program established during World War II, graduating as a Cadet Nurse in September of 1946. Her goal was to become a medical missionary to Africa. In 1949 she completed 18 months of missions studies at Central Bible College, Springfield, MO. Returning to Rhode Island, she worked as an Emergency Response (ER) nurse at the Rhode Island Hospital. She did additional studies in tropical diseases and became a Certified Midwife in December, 1950.
