Pawtucket – Gunnery Sergeant Harold S.
Prew, Jr., USMC (Ret.) 76, passed away unexpectedly on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28, 2019.
He was the beloved husband of the late Linda D. (Nardelli) Prew.
Born in Central Falls, he was a son of the late Harold S., Sr. and Eva (Paulhus) Prew.
Harold was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served his country for twenty years, beginning in 1962 in the United States Army.
He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1964 and served until his retirement as a Gunnery Sergeant, in 1982.
During his time in the military, Harold earned a Silver Star and two Purple Heart Medals for gallantry and injuries sustained during combat in Vietnam; he also received a US Navy Commendation with Combat V and two US Navy Achievement medals with Combat V’s among other citations, ribbons and awards.
Harold was member of the Rhode Island Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and was the founder of the Purple Heart RI License Plates.
He was and a longtime volunteer at the VA Hospital in Providence, where he assisted with the Hospice program for military veterans.
Harold was an avid fan of both the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox and he enjoyed listening to all types of music.
He was also a classic car enthusiast and enjoyed participating in many classic car cruise nights at Slater Park in Pawtucket.
Harold leaves three sons, Scott A.
Prew and his wife, Marina, of Central Falls, Jason M.
Prew and his wife, Brenda, of Long Island, NY, and Albert Joseph Prew of Pawtucket; a daughter, Christina Prew of Kingston; a daughter-in-law, Wendy Prew of Barrington; a brother, Raymond Prew in Florida; two brothers-in-law, Pete Nardelli of North Kingstown and John Schupp of North Smithfield; many cousins, including Sandra McCaffrey and her husband Jim, of Rotondo West, FL; eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was the father of the late Harold S.
His funeral will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. from WILLIAM W.
TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St.
Teresa Church, 358 Newport Ave., Pawtucket.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery.
VISITATION will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Vincent De Paul Food Pantry, C/O St.
John Paul II Parish, 697 Central Ave., Pawtucket, RI 02861 would be appreciated.
