Mirza, 95, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021 after a period of declining health.
He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine R. (Muratori) Mirza.
A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, born November 18, 1925, he was the son of the late Paul and Nora (Kelizley) Mirza.
George was a United States Army veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theater.
He started working at a very young age, selling programs at the former Narragansett Park.
He later spent many years as a foreman at Rayco Manufacturing and then worked for 20 years in the maintenance department of Washburn Wire.
He was a longtime parishioner of St.
He was an avid fisherman and especially loved to fish the Cape Cod Canal.
He spent many years camping at Bourne Scenic Park and was a long-standing member of the Canal Sportsman Club, where he was known as “Georgie Boom, Boom” for his very animated fish stories.
Later in life he spent many hours “down the river” and was a regular at the former Parents Marina in Pawtucket.
He could be found most days at Twin River Casino and loved any type of card game.
He was an exceptional cribbage player always in pursuit of the elusive 29 hand.
He enjoyed gardening and woodworking, making furniture and knick knacks that he often shared with others.
Most of all, he loved spending time surrounded by family.
George leaves three sons, Robert G.
Mirza and his wife, Janice, of Attleboro, James P.
Mirza and his wife Donna, of Wakefield and George K.
Mirza and his wife Anne, of North Attleborough, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by two siblings, Kanum Dempty and Julie Hudon and also predeceased by Albert, Louie, Michael Mirza and Eva Hanoud.
In guidance with strict Covid restrictions, relatives and friends are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 20th, at 11 a.m. in St.
Teresa Church, 358 Newport Ave., Pawtucket.
The Mass will be live streamed, and a link can be found on George’s obituary at TRIPPFUNERALHOME.com.
Interment will follow at Mount Saint Mary Cemetery.
