Attleboro – George P.
Brooks, 96, of South Attleboro, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021.
He was the beloved husband of Mary G. (Fletcher) Brooks for seventy-four loving years.
Born in Central Falls, George lived most of his life in South Attleboro.
He was the son of the late George W. and Claire (Cote) Brooks.
George was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and proudly served aboard the USS Bennington (CV-20) an Essex Class Aircraft Carrier, as a tail gunner.
He went on to a career as a manufacturing engineer at Potter & Johnson and more recently, Federal Products Corporation, until his retirement many years ago.
George enjoyed staying very active, whether it was skiing, hiking the Appalachian Trail and Mountains, playing tennis or golf.
He enjoyed these activities along with his wife, well into his 80’s.
Above all, George was dedicated to his family and enjoyed spending time with them at his family’s vacation home in New Hampshire and attending all his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Besides his beloved wife, he leaves a son, Timothy G.
Brooks and his wife, Mary Lou, of Norton; a daughter, Patricia M.
Brooks of Attleboro; four grandchildren, Matthew DeTore of Attleboro, Kelley Beattie and her husband, Adam, of Norton, Andrew DeTore of Attleboro and Christopher Brooks and his wife, Brielle, of Foxboro, and three great-grandchildren, Blake, Awnan and Griffin Beattie.
VISITATION will be held on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at WILLIAM W.
TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in St.
Theresa of the Child Jesus Church, 18 Baltic St., South Attleboro.
Interment will be at Newell Burying Ground.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to The Providence VA Medical Center, 830 Chalkstone Ave., Voluntary Service (135), Providence, RI 02908 would be appreciated.
