Frederick N. Shwaery, Sr.

January 26, 1929 — April 5, 2023

Pawtucket – Frederick Nicholas Shwaery, Sr., 94, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband of the late Adele Marie (Abdulla Habib) Shwaery for seventy-two beautiful years.

Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Esper A. and Ida (Thomas) Shwaery.

Fred was a longtime member of St.

Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, Pawtucket, where he served on the Parish Council and various committees from 1955 – 1998.

He also served twenty-five years on the Vestry.

He was a member of the Order of St.

Ignatius and was presented the prestigious Antiochian Silver Medal of Honor.

Fred was a lifetime member of the former E.L.

Freeman Lodge, now Jenks Lodge #24; Pawtucket Royal Arch #4; Knights Templar; Holy Sepulare Commandry #8; 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and RI Shriners.

He owned several businesses and served as Chairman of the Taunton Downtown Business District Committee and was a board member for the Taunton Chamber of Commerce.

He was highly regarded and recognized for his many contributions and efforts supporting the Taunton business district.

He was the founder of the $100 Club which was formed to raise $10,000 to decorate the Taunton Green every Christmas season.

He continued to serve on committees to assist the general public.

Fred co-ran the Looff Carousel and the boats at Slater Park, Pawtucket, for five years.

Fred and his late wife Adele, mentored troubled youth, often acting as surrogate parents, feeding, clothing and offering much needed advice to those who continued to be part of their lives.

Fred was a strong supporter of Adele as she was a pioneer in advocating for children with developmental disabilities to have schooling.

His favorite days were cooking breakfast at Lido Beach for his family, fishing, golfing with friends and being with his great-grandchildren.

Fred was a staple at the BVO where he mentored golfers with developmental disabilities.

His life truly exemplified love for his family, service to his community and acts of kindness to humanity.

A husband, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather and mentor too, this is the legacy we have from you.

As God calls us one by one we will be together again.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda A.

Dvelis of Pawtucket; two sons, Frederick N.

Shwaery, Jr. and spouse, Catherine, of Virginia and Robert M.

Shwaery of Pawtucket; brother, David T.

Shwaery and sister, Georgette Fitzpatrick and spouse, Francis.

Fred enjoyed the company of his grandchildren Kristen and Robert Silva, Jason and Stephanie Dvelis, Nicholas Shwaery and Elizabeth and Michael Melcher; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers George and Kenneth Shwaery, and sisters Josephine Yaghoobian and Lora Schroder.

VISITATION will begin on Monday, April 17, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at St.

Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 249 High St., Pawtucket, followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Armistice Blvd., Pawtucket.

Memorial gifts to the Church would be appreciated.
