Naples, Florida - Eunice A. (Cooper) Hughes, 86, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 19th, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles E. Hughes.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Ida E. (Chace) Cooper. Eunice had resided in Smithfield, Rhode Island, before moving to Naples, Florida twenty years ago.
Eunice was a proud 1957 graduate of Hope High School in Providence, Rhode Island. Shortly after, she embarked on a long and fulfilling career with the Providence School Department. Her dedication and hard work were evident as she served as the secretary to the principal of Mount Pleasant High School, a position she held until her retirement in 1988.
She is survived by her loving children, Lori J. Hughes, Susan A. Benoit, and Charles P. Hughes. Eunice also leaves behind her cherished sister, Regina Fiontella, and her adored grandchildren, Michael Benoit, Kelsey Hughes Cherry, and Marissa Hughes. Her great-grandchildren, Anthony Greco and Michael Benoit, along with many nieces and nephews, will forever hold her memory in their hearts. She was the sister of the late Thomas Cooper, Carol Brown and Edna Grant.
Eunice had a passion for life that was evident in her many interests. She enjoyed playing the piano, traveling, family gatherings, pool parties, 4th of July celebrations and holiday dinners. Eunice especially loved going on cruises, creating countless memories on the high seas.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at 8:45 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan Church, 60 Turner Ave., Riverside. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Wampanoag Trail, Riverside. VISITATION will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
