Ellen B. Downie

Pawtucket - Ellen Bibby Downie, 97, passed away on Jan 9th, 2019.

Born in Providence on April 13, 1921 she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ellen (Hutchinson) Downie.

She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Lily Moran and Alice Flaxington.

Ellen leaves a son, John Walter Downie and his wife Nancy, two cherished nieces, Ellen Lawrence and her husband George, Geraldine Johnson and her husband Peter.

She also leaves a grandniece, Samantha Benevides, with whom she shared a special bond as well as several nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Ellen was a book keeper for several years working for different firms in Providence and Pawtucket, and later spent many years working for the USPS until retirement.

She was an avid reader and puzzle solver, loved growing her flowers and shrubs, and was proficient in knitting, crocheting and needlepoint.

She was a devoted member of the Smithfield Avenue Congregational Church in Pawtucket.

We will all miss her feisty, no nonsense but, loving personality.

VISITATION will begin on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by Services at 10 a.m. in WILLIAM W.

TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket.

Interment at RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private.
