East Providence –Elizabeth “Betty” M. (Cullen) Tammany, 84, of Rumford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 4, 2012. She was the beloved wife of the late Chester J. Tammany. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Anna (McArdle) Cullen. Betty was a graduate of Rhode Island College of Education Class of 1949, and taught in the Johnston School System and was a member of the Johnston Federation of Teachers. She taught at Windson Hill Elementary School and also was a Co-Operating Teacher at URI and RIC until retiring in 1984. Betty was a valued volunteer in many local groups and charities including the Sisters of Mercy, “Mary’s House Pantry”; St. Margaret’s Leisure Group; RSVP of East Providence; RI Federation of Health Professionals; East Providence Senior Center and the East Providence Recreation Department. She was also a member and past-president of the Women Amateur Radio Operators of New England and was Amateur Radio Operator KA1JKV. Betty leaves many nieces, nephews,...
