Newport - Elizabeth G. (Kingsbury) De Costa, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2024 at St.
Clare Assisted Living in Newport, RI.
She was born on January 21, 1937, in Mooers, NY to the late Donald and Mary V. (Mitchell) Kingsbury.
Elizabeth was the sister of Lorraine McShane (James) and the late Shirley Quinn, Isabel Bazinet, William Kingsbury and Arlene Murray.
She was the wife to her first husband, the late John Rourke.
She was a beloved mother to her seven J’s: Judith Blouin, John Rourke (Gail), late Joanne Partington, Jeffrey Rourke (Cheryl), Jennifer Blanchet (Raymond), late James Rourke (Keri) and Joy McCaughey.
She said her second husband, the late Louis De Costa “was the love of my life.” They spent many years together traveling as snowbirds from Rhode Island to Florida.
She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was “Grandmama” to many beyond her family.
When there was any funny business she always said, “Honey, you are full of beans!” Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family.
She lived by the motto, “One day at a time, hun.” She was one of the earliest female construction workers in Rhode Island and worked as a CNA for many years.
She loved getting together with her sisters to play a hot card game of High Low Jack or poker, filled with cheap beer, stingers, smokes, and life banter.
She also appreciated a good episode of Dateline.
She enjoyed her sparkling, cigarette pouch from Whiting & Davis and fancy Estee Lauder makeup.
She often would be seen in her 1995 Gold Chevy Caprice, singing the oldies while slowly rolling through stop signs in Darlington or walking Blackstone Boulevard and Slater Park with her sister.
She enjoyed her senior citizen discount at Dunkin’ Donuts.
Iced coffee, two Sweet’N Low and a jelly stick.
She had a smile that lit up any room and a heart of gold radiating love to anyone that came in contact with her.
Liz was everyone's biggest cheerleader and she will be missed dearly. “One day at a time, hun.” Services followed by interment at Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket will be private.
Visitation and flowers are respectfully omitted.
Memorial donations to St.
Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St.
Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 would be appreciated.
Thank you to the staff at St.
Clare for their love and compassion, and being her second family.
