Pawtucket, RI – Eleni “Helen” Stathatos (Marnelakis), 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

She was the beloved wife of the late Panagiotis “Peter” Stathatos.

Born in Crete, Greece, Eleni was the daughter of the late Panagiotis and Argiro Marnelakis (Skoulas).

She immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1956 and soon after wed her husband, Panagiotis.

Together they began their family and, in 1968, moved to the United States, settling in Rhode Island.

Eleni was employed at Conrad Jarvis Corp. for over 30 years before retiring.

Eleni was devoted to her family, graciously supporting her children and joyfully spending time with all her grandchildren.

She took great pleasure in cooking and preparing traditional Cretan dishes in her kitchen.

A dedicated parishioner of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, Eleni always supported the church’s annual festival, where she was known for making “loukoumades” from morning to night through the festival weekend.

During the summer, she also devoted countless hours to tending to her beautiful garden.

Eleni is survived by her three daughters: Dina Platsidakis, Argiro Bitsakis and husband Nicholas, Harinoula Martins and husband Jose.

She will be deeply missed by her five grandchildren:  Maria, Loukas, Ellie, Angelina and Cristiano, as well as her many nieces and nephews.

She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Christine Marnelakis, Gerasimoula Stathatos and Regina Stathatos.

Eleni was preceded in death by her siblings Yiannis Marnelakis, Pagona Katsigarakis, Viandriki Manousakis, Dimitra Vourvouchakis, and Eftihios Marnelakis, and son-in-law Michael Platsidakis.

The Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, August 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, located at 97 Walcott St., Pawtucket, RI.

Following the service, Eleni will be interred alongside her beloved husband at the Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 am, prior to the Funeral Service, at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Building Fund of the Church.
