Edward J. Marchwicki, Jr.

Pawtucket – Edward J. Marchwicki, Jr., 69, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, December 30, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Brenda L. (Bisson) Marchwicki for 28 years. Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Edward J., Sr. and Sophie M. (Cybulski) Marchwicki. Ed graduated from North Smithfield High School in 1968 as a member of the first graduating class at a newly constructed facility. Prior to the completion of North Smithfield’s own high school, Ed attended Mount Saint Charles Academy in Woonsocket, RI. Ed’s athletic ability secured him a position on the school’s varsity baseball team as pitcher and, the school tennis team. In addition, Ed’s leadership ability both on and off the field earned him a position on the school’s Student Council as President. Because of Ed’s considerable artistic ability, he was asked to work with the Balfour Ring Company, sole supplier of North Smithfield’s class rings, to design the school’s first, class ring. Ed’s design is still used to this day, some 50 years later. He also designed the current North Smithfield Town Seal and Shield. After graduation from high school, Ed continued his formal education, entering Providence College in the fall of 1968 and graduating with Batcheler of Science degree in Business Administration focusing on accounting. After graduating from Providence College in 1972, Ed began his career with Christianson & Company, an accounting firm in Woonsocket and became the firm’s manager. On April 1, 1982, Ed and his lifelong friend and business partner – Lorraine Slaney, opened Marchwicki Associates, Inc. Ed was a longtime and active member of many area clubs and associations including, The 100 Club of Rhode Island, where Ed was a lifetime member served as Treasurer for over forty years; The University Club, Providence, The Providence Art Club, The Turk’s Head Club, The TK Club, Boston, The Boston University Club, The Dunes Club, Narragansett and Agawam Hunt, Rumford. In addition to the many memberships Ed held, he was also an avid tennis player and enjoyed auto racing. Ed raced his own Porsche and served in Paul Newman’s pit crew at Lime Rock Park in the 1970’s. He also raced at many other area racetracks including, Palmer Motor Sports Park, Thompson Speedway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Louden and Watkins Glen International. Edward held a membership in the Porsche Club of America for over forty-five years. Besides his loving wife, Edward leaves his brother, John Marchwicki and his wife, Kimberly in Boeme, Texas; loving mother-in-law, Doris M. Bisson of Pawtucket and his late father-in-law, Maurice D. Bisson; sisters-in-law, Sheryl Bisson and her husband, Phil Parot, of Jacksonville, Florida, Deborah Bussiere and her husband, James, of Cumberland and Donna Burke and her husband, Robert, of Boxford, Massachusetts; a nephew, William Burke; a niece, Alexandra Burke and his business partner and dear friend, Lorraine C. Slaney. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church, 755 Central Ave., Pawtucket.
