Douglas R. Gobeille

July 9, 1938 — October 5, 2022

Rehoboth – Douglas R.

Gobeille, 84, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.

He was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine P. (Vincelette) Gobeille, who passed in 2019.

Born in Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Emile and Helen (Douglas) Gobeille.

Doug was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam Era and went onto a career as an educator for the Pawtucket School Department.

Over the years, he taught at Lyman B.

Goff Junior High School and most recently at the William E.

Tolman High School, where he retired from years ago.

Doug was a talented musician and played the ukulele with the RI Strummers Ukulele Group and “Four Guys” band where they would perform for many of the area’s veteran groups and old folk’s homes.

In addition to his love of music, Doug was also nostalgic, and he enjoyed regaling his family and friends with stories of bygone times.

Doug loved to bring smiles to everyone’s face with his genuine conversations, not limited to his family and friends, but with strangers and those that he would meet along the way.

Doug was also a dedicated volunteer to local veteran’s groups in Rehoboth, giving rides to veterans in need of a lift to a doctor’s appointment or for a trip to a local store or errand.

Above all, Doug was devoted to his family.

He diligently kept up family traditions, whether it was a visit to Matunuck Beach where he coordinated “pirate treasure chest hunts” or the annual visit to Trinity Rep. for Charles Dickens’, A Christmas Carol.

In more recent days, he took up playing Bingo at The Arbors Assisted Living in Taunton and playing Cornhole at his family’s cookouts.

Doug had a true and genuine love of people and enjoyed bringing joy to all whose lives he has touched over the past eighty-four years.

He leaves two sons, Jay S.

Gobeille and his wife, Debra, of Huntersville, NC, and Keith D.

Gobeille and his wife, Deborah, of Berkley, MA; two grandchildren, Daniel and Jaymie Gobeille in North Carolina; two siblings, Marianne Mello and her husband, Joe, and Kathleen Deroche and her husband, Ron; a sister-in-law, Jeannette Gobeille of Smithfield, RI and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Alfred “Fred” Gobeille.

Thank you to all who cared for Doug and Lol in their later years.

A special thank you to the “Team of Angels” that provided such loving care for Pépère during his recent journey.
