Dorothy de Melo Reis Gauthier passed away peacefully on July 12, 2019 at the age of 94. Dorothy was born in Central Falls, RI but was a long time resident of Seekonk, MA and Wickford, RI. Dorothy was raised in Portugal and received a BS and MS in microbiology and a PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Portugal in Porto. Dorothy returned to the United States in 1956 to pursue her career in the medical field. She worked for East Side Clinical Laboratory for 20 years as a laboratory manager and then as co-director. She also taught medical technology at Rhode Island Hospital for 6 years and chemistry at CCRI. Dorothy loved languages and teaching. She was a language instructor and private tutor in English and Portuguese for 15 years. She taught a course at Brown University’s School for Continuing Education called Portuguese for Healthcare Providers. She was also an interpreter for the U.S. District Court of RI.
