Donald B. Leggat

Seekonk - Donald Burgess Leggat, 82, passed away on May 6, 2012 at Memorial Hospital of RI.

He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Nancy, as well as his three children and their spouses; Robin and her husband Raymond Grant of Seekonk, MA, David and his wife Judy Leggat of Lebanon, PA and Carol and her husband Joe Robitaille of Seekonk, MA.

He will continue to serve as an inspiration to his eight grandchildren; Brooke, Caitlin, Raymond, Adalia, Frances, John, Nathan and Greer.

Son of the late George Dunlop Leggat and Edith (Rimmer) Leggat, and brother of the late Jean Ellen Leggat, he graduated from Pawtucket East Senior High School in 1947.

He also earned a bachelor’s degree from Bryant University in 1969.

He served his country proudly and honorably in the US Navy from 1947 to 1953, maintaining a post on the USS Stormes DD-780 during the Korean War.

Professionally, he had a vibrant career with the General Electric Co., retiring in 1989 after 38 years in the Electrical Utility Sales Division.

Spiritually, he was an active member of the Episcopal Church.

Martin’s Church in Pawtucket, for over 60 years, serving on the senior choir and holding many positions in the booster club.

Upon the church’s closing in 2007, he embraced membership at the Church of the Epiphany in Rumford, bringing his distinctive voice to their choir as well.

Socially, he was the proud member of many fraternal organizations.

He enjoyed lifetime memberships in the American Legion Fairlawn Post #42, Jenks Lodge #24 F&AM, the Scottish Rite Valley of Providence 32nd Degree Masons, and the Masonic Veteran's Association.

His life and legacy will be celebrated in a Service in the Church of the Epiphany, 1336 Pawtucket Ave., Rumford, on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 11 a.m.

A reception will follow at the church.

Visitation and flowers are respectfully omitted.
