Denise Deschenes

March 2, 1926 — February 5, 2021

Pawtucket – Denise (Golla) Deschenes, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 5, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Bertrand Deschenes.

Born in the Ferryville, (Menzel Bourgiba), Tunisia, she was one of twelve children of the late Charles and Marguerite (Calvel) Golla.

Deschenes grew up on an olive plantation with her family surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea.

She emigrated to the United States in 1949 and joined her sister, Helen Risho, in Rhode Island.

Denise settled in Pawtucket and worked at the former G.T.E. in Central Falls for thirty years until her retirement in 1983.

She was a longtime member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Pawtucket.

Denise enjoyed doing crafts, knitting, gardening and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Jocelyn Haley and her husband, Dwight, of Warren and Liliane Birtz of Pawtucket; two grandchildren, Nathan Haley of Virginia and Kasey D’Amico of Pawtucket; six siblings, Marcelle Ventura, Maurice and Rene Golla, Marie France Bard and Claire Chamard-Bois, all of France, and Robert Golla of Rockford, Alabama, and many nieces and nephews throughout Canada and France.

She was the mother of the late Paul Deschenes and sister of the late Simone Fuss, Jeanne LeGuillou, Germaine Fromont, Jacques Golla and Helen Risho.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Requiem Eucharist on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 490 Broadway, Pawtucket.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, seating will be limited and face masks are required.

Interment with her late husband in Oak Grove Cemetery, Pawtucket, will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Church of the Good Shepherd would be appreciated.
