Dorothy “Dianne” (Salomon) Martin, 81, quietly and calmly left this physical world on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Bridges by Epoch in Lexington, MA, with family and favorite staff by her side.
Born in Providence, RI, on August 6, 1943, to James and Mary Ellen (Horiagon) Salomon, Dianne lived her childhood in Providence.
After her marriage to James Raymond Martin, they settled in Cranston where they raised their 3 children.
Along with her brothers, Jimmy and Ken, Dianne was lucky to have a large extended family with her father being the oldest of six and her mother being the oldest of nine siblings.
Dianne cherished her bond with her aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout her life.
She was known to be the person to comfort everyone and would always be the first to help a friend or relative with any need.
Dianne’s niece, Janice, said “she would babysit Joyce and me when we were young, and she never came without a project.
The thing I remember most is making animals out of plaster of Paris, by pouring it into molds.
She was so good to us!” Dianne graduated from Classical High School and Katharine Gibbs.
She worked as a secretary for the Cranston Public Schools (often showing off how quick she was writing shorthand) and was known to take her daughter with her on field trips with the special needs students from Cranston High School East in the 80s.
When her mother became ill with the same affliction, Dianne left the school system to help care for her.
Her strong desire to be there for others in her extended family continued.
She cared for her husband, Jimmy, during his short lived but courageous battle with Brain Cancer in 2011.
Dianne viewed her family as the most important thing in her life.
Some of her favorite places to spend time with her children included Sunrise Resort (Frank Davis) in Moodus, CT, parks from Rhode Island to New Hampshire, ice rinks all over the United States, and parks all over New England.
She spent lots of time with her grandchildren, and although time with the youngest two was spent with her brain forgetting, she always knew that they were hers.
She also loved spending time with her many grandpups.
It is expected that the pearly gates opened and that she was swept into the arms of her late husband, James, and danced again for the first time after being stuck in a wheelchair for so long.
Dianne was also welcomed to the next part of her journey by her parents, James and Mary Salomon, her half-brother, James Salomon and all of her loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that she cared for over the years.
She has also finally met the often mentioned child that she miscarried before her children were born.
She watches over those left behind.
Her children and their spouses, Kevin (Tammy) Martin of Connecticut, Keith (Jennifer) Martin of Washington, DC, and Debra (Richard) Moffitt of Lexington, MA; her grandchildren, Kyle, Daphne and Felicity, and grandpups, Luna and Dakota.
Her brother, Ken (Jan) Salomon; nieces, Janice Warburton, Joyce Hackley, Laurie Robinson, Ellen MacNaught and nephews, Gregg and Jonathan Salomon, as well as many cousins and friends.
The family knows how much Dianne enjoyed a funeral because she got to see people that we always said we “would see again under better circumstances”.
For this reason, we invite her family and friends to William W.
Tripp Funeral Home and request smiles, hugs, and stories to be offered.
Special thank you to the amazing memory care trained staff at The Lighthouse at Lincoln in Lincoln, RI, and Bridges Epoch in Lexington, MA, for caring for our mother for the last 8 years.
